BED & BREAKFAST INNS The Carriage House Inn (479-243-0957; www.thecarriagehouseinn.net), 701 12th Street, Mena. This is a National Register of Historic Places mansion featuring a 1,000-square-foot private guest house with a separate bedroom, living area, dining area, and kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave. Conveniently located within walking distance of downtown and a city park, amenities include complimentary coffee, tea, snack basket, and freshly baked cookies; TV, DVD, and wireless Internet; and bicycles for wandering around town or visiting Janssen Park. Baby equipment (high chair, pack-n-play, hiking backpack, strollers) can be provided for a nominal fee. Rates range from $90–120 a night. $–$$$.
INNS AND LODGES Backwoods Lodge (870-818-0892; www.backwoodslodgemena.com), 560 CR 78, Mena. Located in the Ouachita Mountains adjacent to the Ouachita National Forest, this lodge is perfect for hunting and ATV riding. In season, guided hunts for deer, bear, or turkey are available. Hunts catering to the disabled and special baited-bear hunts are also provided. Escape to this four-bedroom, four-bath lodge and submerge in the six-person hot tub on the 675-square-foot deck. It’s idea for weddings, honeymoons, family reunions, corporate meetings/retreats, and B&B vacations. Backwoods offers sleeping for eight adults with king-sized beds that can change out to two singles, a complete kitchen with cook, daily housekeeping, in-room satellite TV, central heat and air, and ceiling fans. The entire lodge rents for $250 a night during the week and $290 a night weekends. $$–$$$.
Cornerstone Mountain Retreat (479-216-2495; www.cornerstonemountainretreat.com), 255 CR 30, Hatfield. Cornerstone is located 1 mile off US 71, 7 miles south of Mena. An 18,000-square-foot, fully equipped, three-story lodge invites you to its three bedrooms, two baths, full kitchen, dining area, full utility room, upper deck, lower deck, front porch, big hot tub, gas grill, and TV and DVD player with library of movies. The lodge rents for $200 a night for two, with an additional $10 charge for each additional person. $$–$$$.
Cossatot River’s Sugar Creek Lodge (1-866-394-7747; www.cossatotriver.com), 140 Edgewater Lane, Mena. Sugar Creek has a variety of lodging options from which you can choose. The Mountain Lodge is three bedrooms with a king in the master, a king in the second bedroom, and a full and twin in the third. It also includes a sleeper sofa, kitchen, washer/dryer, central air, fireplace in the living area and master bedroom, shower, two toilets, and a jetted tub in the master bedroom. Price is $160 minimum up to six people, then additional charges will apply. Eagle Lodge is a two-bedroom unit with a king in both the master and the second bedroom, and a day bed in the living area, kitchen, central air, fireplace in living area and master bedroom, bathtub, shower, jetted tub in master, two toilets, and a washer/dryer. The lodge rents for $140 a night for up to four people, then additional charges apply. A general store, soda fountain, restaurant, and chapel complete the property’s amenities. $–$$.
RESORTS Highway 27 Fishing Village (870-867-2211; www.highway27fishingvillage.homestead.com), 214 Fishing Village Road, Story. Every unit has a lake view and is fully furnished, with air conditioning, heat, and in-room TV.
